Our Farm

We moved to East Texas in the spring of 2002 from Elko, Nevada where we had both worked in the gold mining industry.  We purchased a 100 acre farm in Douglass, TX and started out raising Boer goats.  In 2005 we decided we needed to find a goat that required less maintenance here in our wet, humid climate.  After much searching, we found Kiko goats and fell in love.  They are the easiest goats to care for and thrive in our climate.

In 2005 we also decided we needed to find a grazer to compliment our goats and we found the Lowline Angus cattle.  They are a small breed of Angus that do very well on a grass fed diet and are very easy to handle. (LEARN MORE ABOUT GRASSFED)

In 2007 we added St Croix sheep to our operation and changed our focus from raising goats to raising grass and animals that can thrive on grass alone in our humid climate.  EASY is our motto.  We look for animals that can eat what we can grow and thrive on it.  We always treat with herbal wormers and cures first and limit any use of chemicals unless it is a life threatening situation.  Our pastures are fertilized with hydrolyzed fish and molasses and our weeds are controlled with goats, sheep, and cutting.

In 2009 our big success is the return of our dung beetles.  After years of chemical use by prior owners, we finally have the balance back and also the dung beetles!!  This is a big success for the health of our land and animals.

Also, in 2009, we are adding Senepol cattle to our operation.  These cattle originate in St Croix (like our sheep) and do very well in hot, humid climates.  They are a bit bigger framed than the Lowline and we think the cross will work very well for us.  There is always something new as we are always working at improving what we do.
Call for a visit we would love to share our experiences with you.
